RAPE AND MURDER IN MOSUL

RAPE AND MURDER IN MOSUL (affidavit prepared by Special Agent [NAME REDACTED] of U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command; status: rejected)

On 28 March 2005, 2LT [NAME REDACTED] of 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment of the 25th Infantry Division, visited my office. He acted nervous and even somewhat frightened. I offered him a cigarette and he accepted. After assuring him anonymity in my report, he granted me permission to record our meeting.

He proceeded to tell me of an event relayed to him by an enlisted man under his command, SPC [NAME REDACTED], in the early morning of 15 November, 2004, in Mosul, Iraq, during operations there.

According to his source, two other men under his command, SPC [NAME REDACTED] and SPC [NAME REDACTED] had made a private arrangement with a captured insurgent, whose name is not known.

Presumably, the insurgent, who spoke fluent English and revealed he had come from Egypt, offered [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] a bribe in the form of sexual favors by a local girl.

At roughly 2300 on 14 November, [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] had a secret meeting in a residential basement with the insurgent, who acted as “pimp” in the deal and had brought the girl, about 11 or 12, against her will.

While the insurgent watched and stood guard, [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] repeatedly raped and sodomized the girl. At some point, an enraged local man entered and tried to interfere, and was shot on sight. 2LT [REDACTED] believes this was the girl’s father.

2LT [REDACTED] reported this incident to his superior, CPT [REDACTED], who allegedly dismissed the report. When 2LT [REDACTED] attempted to press the issue, CPT [REDACTED] “became visibly frustrated and angry, and told me to ‘drop this [EXPLETIVE] right [EXPLETIVE] now.’”

Upon learning that SPC [REDACTED] and SPC [REDACTED] were being considered for the Silver Star Medal for valor in combat, 2LT [REDACTED] learned too late that the victims that night – the man and his wife – had been described as enemy combatants. The fate of the girl, and of the insurgent “pimp,” is unknown.

It is 2LT [REDACTED] wish that SPC [REDACTED] and SPC [REDACTED] be stripped of their medals and thoroughly investigated, and that other members of their unit be contacted for questioning immediately.
